Two of Ian Macleod Distillers leading single malt brands, Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, have scooped Gold awards at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tamdhu Batch Strength II was awarded a Double Gold Medal, and Glengoyne 25 Year Old brought home a Gold from the competition, fighting off stiff competition from more than 2,100 entries - the largest in its 17-year history.
Widely considered America’s most prestigious international spirits competition, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition was held on 21- 23 April. Commenting on the awards, Neil Boyd, Commercial Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, one of Scotland’s leading, independent family-owned distillers, said: “We are thrilled to learn that two of our brands have been recognised in such a respected industry competition, especially in America which is a key market for both brands.
“Tamdhu Batch Strength II and the Glengoyne 25 Year Old have one thing in common – they have both been exclusively matured in the finest hand-selected sherry oak casks, capturing the complex richness and intensity of sherry cask-matured whisky. Winning Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is truly an international stamp of quality for our malts.”
Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition has become the most respected and influential spirits competition in the world. Staying true to the nature of the competition, entries were evaluated by a selection of the finest palettes and the judging was blind, ensuring competitive integrity.
