Ian Macleod Distillers celebrates a Hat-Trick at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Ian Macleod Distillers is celebrating after winning three top awards at America’s most prestigious international spirits competition, the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The newly released Tamdhu Batch Strength Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Glengoyne 25 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky and The Six Isles Blended Malt Scotch Whisky all won gold medals.

The esteemed competition was held on the 19 - 22 March where the whiskies fought off stiff opposition from more than 1,500 entries across the board, which marks the highest number in the competition’s 15 year history.

Commenting on the awards, Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Ian Macleod Distillers said, “We are absolutely thrilled that three of our whiskies have won such prestigious awards.  The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is widely respected in the industry and it’s great to receive such recognition.”

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the largest international spirits competition in America and is judged by a panel of nationally recognised spirits experts. Entries are scrutinised by 39 of the finest palates and the judging is blind, ensuring competitive integrity.

Glengoyne 25 Year Old Highland Single Malt Whisky

Nose: Red fruits, old leather and brown sugar

Mouth Feel: Soft oak, cinnamon, stewed fruits and a Seville marmalade tang

Finish: Very long, with spicy liquorice, slowly drying


Tamdhu Batch Strength

Nose: Red berries, sultanas, walnuts, hints of pecan, delicate citrus and oak,creamy vanilla, cookie dough.

Palate: Powerful burst of richness, fantastically rounded with sherry oak, spice and dried fruit. Kept on the palate, lighter fruits come to the fore - apricot, orange and crème brûlée.

Finish: Rich, biscuity and malty, toast and marmalade with pleasing fruitiness lingering.


The Six Isles Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

Nose: Complex structure. Spicy, peppery, lightly smoked, wine gums, heathery floral notes. Mild sea breeze.

Palate: Rich, sweet, oily with subtle notes of fresh cut wood, citrus and a touch of peat.

Finish: Soft, salty and sweet. Long lasting and mellow.
