One of Scotland's most prestigious military fundraising events teed off yesterday when Squadron Leader Mark Taylor RAF Leuchars and Colonel Phil Bates Commander Edinburgh Garrison teamed up with Major (Rtd) Tim Grantham of Wounded in Service Events to officially launch the Glengoyne Golf Day & Gala Dinner at The Fairmont St Andrews.
The Armed Forces are faced with dangerous and sadly, at times, fatal engagements in the UK and around the world with many soldiers returning with life changing injuries incurred on our behalf.
Wounded in Service Events, in partnership with Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a Forces Champion, is staging this fundraising Gala Dinner event with an evening full of entertainment in support of the Military and its primary Charities including The Soldiers' Charity, RAFBF, Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and Help for Heroes.
The second Glengoyne Golf Day & Gala Dinner in St Andrews - with the inaugural 2012 event raising over £10,000 - will be the largest single gathering of our Military Services of all ranks to take place at a fundraising Gala dinner this year.
Guests will be entertained by Her Majesty's Royal Marines Band (Scotland), The Buglers of 3 RIFLES and the Pipes & Drums of 1 SCOTS who have recently returned from OP HERRICK 17.
In addition, there will be compelling speeches and stories from the front line from senior members of our Armed Forces - Air Commodore Gerry Mayhew ADC MA RAF, Major Bob Stuart MBE 1 SCOTS, Captain Chris Smith Royal Navy Regional Commander Scotland and NI, Colonel Phil Bates Commander Edinburgh Garrison - and Rhodri Price Director Championship Operations at The R&A.
There will be a live Auction with unique prizes plus a special Auction item for the families of the three members of 2 SCOTS who were sadly killed a number of weeks ago.
The Gala Dinner begins with a Glengoyne drinks reception in the Atrium at 6.45pm with a four-course dinner commencing at 7.30pm.
Major (Rtd) Tim Grantham, Managing Director for Wounded in Service Events, commented: "This is an opportunity for Fifers, military supporters and golf enthusiasts alike to come together and enjoy a celebratory evening of fine malt and fine dining. Many of the serving personnel attending the event have recently returned from Afghanistan so this is a timely opportunity for Fifers to show their support for our Armed Forces."
Neil Boyd, UK Commercial Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, owners of Glengoyne, added: "In the last year alone, Glengoyne has raised funds in excess of £31,000 for military charities and we are delighted to continue our support for military charities with the Glengoyne Golf Day and Gala Dinner. Last year's event was a great success enjoyed by over 150 people and we're confident this year's dinner will be another sell-out."
Gala Dinner packages are available with tables of ten for £1,150. Alternatively, individual tickets are available for £120 pp.
