Edinburgh, 20 November 2008: Ian Macleod Distillers has won Distillery Bottling of the Year for its Glengoyne 21 Year Old in Scottish Field's annual Whisky Challenge Final (SFWC).
Glengoyne 21 Year Old was chosen in a 'blind' tasting by an esteemed panel of nine experts representing a cross section of the whisky community, including Richard Joynson of Loch Fyne Whiskies; Keir Sword of Royal Mile Whiskies and Julie Trevisan-Hunter of the Scotch Whisky Experience.
Praised for its sweet sherry flavours, Regis Lemaitre of website, Regiswhiskymad.com, described Glengoyne 21 Year Old as having a 'Good level of sherry, round, musty and easy drinking. Impressive taste: rich, chocolatey with a little mint â?¦ Very pleasant!'; whilst Richard Joynson described it as 'Pow! Zingy, musty and sherry sweetâ?¦ A 'class act.'
Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Ian Macleod Distiller's, commented: "Launched in April 2007, Glengoyne 21 Year Old achieves the optimum balance of flavours and the maximum benefits from our specially selected 100% first fill European Oak Sherry casks. We are delighted that these prestigious awards have recognised the exceptional quality of the whisky in the bottle."
Glengoyne fought off strong competition from Benriach Authenticus and Highland Park 18 Year Old, who took silver and bronze respectively. A full list of winners in the 2008/09 SFWC Awards can be found in the current issue of Scottish Field (Dec 2008) on sale now.
