Glengoyne Goes For Gold

27 October, 2008, Dumgoyne: Celebrating the golden history, authenticity and craftsmanship that Glengoyne Distillery has encapsulated over the past 175 years, Ian Macleod Distillers is launching a new travel retail exclusive, Glengoyne 14 Years Old Heritage Gold, at TFWA in Cannes.   'Heritage Gold' will eventually replace the core range Glengoyne 10 Years Old in much of the travel retail market. 

Designed by the multi-award winning Graphic Partners, the overall design will link to the other core Glengoyne malts 10, 12, 17 and 21 but will have additional exclusive luxury cues for the travel retail market including the predominant use of gold on the presentation tube and labels, and a tasting notes neck tag booklet.

Over the next five years, Ian Macleod plans to increase its travel retail sales from eight to ten per cent of its overall business, developing exclusive travel retail products on an ongoing basis, the first of which were Glengoyne Burnfoot and Smokehead Extra Rare launched last year. 

The award winning Ian Macleod portfolio, which includes Glengoyne, King Robert II, Langs and Smokehead, as well as gin, rum, and vodka, currently has combined total sales of more than one million cases, with 85% being exported to over 65 markets worldwide.

Glengoyne 14 Year Old Heritage Gold is available globally, exclusively through travel retail outlets (70 litre, 40% vol., TR RSP of £30.99/â?¬40.00/$60.00).

The Scotch Malt Whisky Association reported a record year for exports in 2007, earning £90 every second for UK balance of trade; the equivalent of over one billion bottles shipped every year.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Shining Gold

Nose: Creamy with vanilla, sultanas, lemon zest and spiced apple

Taste/Body: Smooth and clean, it tastes of honey, sweet malt, with a delicate fullness.

Finish: Rich with good length, cinnamon bread with lime.
