10th November 2007

The Travel Retail Awards were introduced by Drinks International to recognise companies that are bringing creative new ideas and products to travel retail as well as investing in the sector and driving the market forward.

Glengoyne Burnfoot, received a Highly Commended award in the category of Best International Drinks Launch at the TFWA World Exhibition 2007.  Burnfoot cleverly blends modern touches such as the fluorescent gps inspired box design with Glengoyne's heritage - the name itself refers to the distillery's original 1833 title.  Created to represent a cross section of the Glengoyne character, Burnfoot offers a slightly smoother and sweeter taste than some of the other variants in the Glengoyne range.

Smokehead Extra Rare, the one-litre extension of the award-winning Smokehead Single Islay Malt, received a Highly Commended in the category of Most Creative Alcoholic Drinks' Packaging Design.  Created by London based agency, Navy Blue, Extra Rare keeps the distinctive and tactile embossed and debossed tin of the original, but a colour change from black and white to metallic silver with gun-metal foiled letterpress, gives a new sophisticated edge.

Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Ian Macleod Distillers commented: "The response to Glengoyne Burnfoot and Smokehead Extra Rare since their launch in October has been fantastic. We are thrilled to have the quality and design of both products recognised in the Travel Retail Awards.

Over the next five years, the Travel Retail market will be a key focus for Ian Macleod Distillers, with the aim to increase their presence, volume and profit in global Travel Retail.  The development of new exclusive Travel Retail products, such as Smokehead Extra Rare and Glengoyne Burnfoot form an essential part in this new strategy.

Marketed as a premium luxury products, limited stock of Smokehead Extra Rare and Glengoyne Burnfoot are available worldwide exclusively through travel retail outlets.
