Dun Bheagan Collection Toasts Success on Both Sides of the Atlantic

8th November 2007

Broxburn, 8 November 2007:  Ian Macleod Distillers is celebrating a number of awards for its Single Malt Dun Bheagan Collection. The brand has received accolades on both sides of the Atlantic at this year's US Malt Advocate Awards and UK Whisky Magazine's Independent Bottlers' Challenge.

The rare 35 Years Old Dun Bheagan Single Malt Scotch, 1970 Vintage (distilled at Springbank) and imported by LGE Enterprises of New Jersey (Tel.917 715 8347), was named one of the Top Ten New Whiskies of 2007 at this year's prestigious Malt Advocate Awards.  Selected by Malt Advocate's editor, John Hansell, at Whisky Fest 2007 in New York, the 35 Years Old Malt was described as "A stunning whisky!â?, "complex, vibrant and well-balancedâ?.

On this side of the 'pond', both the Dun Bheagan 8 Years Old Lowland Single Malt and Dun Bheagan 8 Years Old Island Single Malt received Gold Awards in the 2007 Independent Bottlers' Challenge.  Both whiskies are part of the Dun Bheagan 8 Years Old Regional Malt Collection, which offers a fine selection of Scotland's regional whiskies, capturing the character of Lowland, Speyside, Highland, Island and Islay Single malts. Each cask is matured for a minimum of 8 years in traditional oak casks at its distillery of origin.

Leonard Russell, Managing Director, of Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd. said: "We are delighted that the quality of the Dun Bheagan range has been recognised by both these highly respected Awards.

The Dun Bheagan collection, owned by brand proprietors, Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd, is a unique range of single cask and small batch Single Malt Scotch Whiskies.  Each rare cask is handpicked by Ian Macleod's malt team and bottled straight from the cask without chill-filtration to ensure a richer colour and smoother taste.

Notes to Editors

Dun Bheagan (distilled at Springbank), Cask No. 1704, 35 year old, 1970 vintage

750ml @ 50.5% alc./vol.

RRP: US9.00 (exclusive to ASTOR Wines & Spirits, NY)

Tasting Notes:

Quite fresh and appetizing for a 35 year old whisky, but not too surprising for a Springbank. Notes of creamy vanilla, burnt caramel, coconut custard, brine, and a hint of anise. Complex, vibrant, and well-balanced. Reminds me why I love those old Springers. Devotees will not be disappointed. A stunning whisky!  (John Hansell, Malt Advocate)

Dun Bheagan Island Single Malt 8 YO

70 and 75cl @ 43% vol

RRP: £18.99

Dun Bheagan Island Single Malt 8 Years Old is among the most distinctive of all malt whiskies. Distilled on one of the islands of the West coast of Scotland, this malt is memorable on account of the strong flavours of peat, iodine and seaweed.

Tasting Notes:

The nose is dry with a slight sherry overtone and strong sea-salt influence. The palate reveals a sweetness behind the dominant smoke and peat of the malt.

Dun Bheagan Lowland Single Malt 8 YO

70 and 75cl @ 43% vol

RRP: £18.99

Dun Bheagan Lowland Single Malt 8 Years Old is triple distilled and slightly peated. Its water supply comes from the Highlands although the distillery lies in the Lowlands. One of the few remaining Lowland distilleries in Scotland.

Tasting  Notes:

A light classic Lowland Malt with unusual character due to the triple distillation. Slightly oily with citrus fruit flavours, lots of freshness, and clear taste. A delightful aperitif drink.
