Edinburgh, 5 March 2004: Chieftain's Cigar Malt was voted the
second best malt whisky in the world to accompany a cigar at the Habanos Cigar
Festival in Cuba
last week (26 February).
A team of 400 judges and delegates
from every continent around the world, sampled eight Scotch malt whiskies to
vote Chieftain's Cigar Malt number two in the Whisky & Cigar Challenge
2004, in Cuba.
Eight whiskies were shortlisted
(from 24) in initial tastings in Glasgow before
being flown to Cuba
for the final competition, which took place during the annual Habanos Cigar
Festival. The objective was to establish which Scotch whisky best accompanies
hand-made Havana Cigars.
Chieftain's Cigar Malt beat off six
other malt whiskies including Whyte & Mackay 21 years old, Cutty Sark 25
years old and Dalmore 30 years old. It came second only to Macallan Cask
Strength in a tense final between the two whiskies.
