History
Established in London in 1667, Hedges & Butler, fine merchants of wines and spirits, has built a reputation over 332 years for refinement and quality. Royal ascent was granted to H&B in 1837 by HM Queen Victoria. Hedges & Butler retained its distinction over the years and became known as the official supplier to the Royal Court of Britain and foreign dignitaries.
Hedges & Butler Vintage Single Malts has been selected from dormant casks hidden for years by our master blender in our warehouses for using as part of his secret recipe of the famous H&B blend.
Each bottle carries a piece of Scotland's history through life pictures taken at the turn of the last century. A Limited Edition series for the connoisseur and collector.
The old distillery in existence before Clynelish was known as Brora. Unfortunately Brora was closed in 1983. Its sister distillery, Clynelish, is in production since 1968. It produces a less peaty malt than Brora, which is often named the old Clynelish.
The original distillery was established in 1819 by the Marquis of Stafford, Duke of Sutherland, to offer work for displaced crofters during the clearances. The venture was also used as an access market for his locally produced barley. Clynelish is a typical example of a coastal Highland malt from the Northeast that resembles an island malt.
